A Short History of the Moravian Church was written in 1957 by the Right Rev. Herbert Spaugh. It was initially updated in 1996 by the Rev. Dr. Worth Green, and revised several times since. HIV/AIDS Global Pandemic

Thursday, June 19th, 2008 | Blog Post, Moravian Stuff | Comments Off

HIV/AIDS is a disaster of overwhelming magnitude that has had devastating effects on populations around the world, especially with our partners in Tanzania. But there is also evidence of risk of epidemic proportions developing in countries in Central America and the Caribbean, where other BWM partners reside.

We believe that faith organizations have a crucial role to play in combating this disease, both in raising awareness and understanding, in promoting preventive strategies and in compassionately caring for those who have HIV/AIDS. As part of our vision to serve others, the Board of World Mission is committed to supporting our partner provinces as they confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Hutton’s History of the Moravian Church (1 of 6)

Friday, June 6th, 2008 | Moravian Stuff | Comments Off

Thanks to the efforts of an American in London, John Bechard, J. E. Hutton’s 1909 edition of The History of the Moravian Church is now on-line. Mr. Bechard has been very gracious in allowing us to convert his text to HTML and post it on our web site. Hutton’s history is limited in that it only traces Moravian history into the early days of the 20th Century, but it is certainly the best history of the Moravian Church now on the web. This is a book length history, and is served-up one chapter at a time. Those desiring a shorter, single document should read Bishop’s Spaugh’s “Short History” that posted as a PDF under “Parish Papers.”

Moravians Doing Evangelism Today

Thursday, May 29th, 2008 | Moravian Stuff | Comments Off

Several years ago, I received the following email and book chapter from Br. Steve Nicholas who visited New Philadelphia in conjunction with research on a book. He was among us because he wished to see for himself what we were doing to help produce growth. He included us in his book on evangelism, along with several other Moravian Churches. He has given me permission to post it what he says about NPMC in the context of the chapter. › Continue reading
